I’m excited to share my September 2013 cover of Outdoor Photographer Magazine!

The eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California are my backyard playground as many of you know. With an amazing variety of rugged peaks, alpine meadows and gorgeous light, they offer endless opportunity for photography and those with an adventurous spirit.

Here, my wife Maureen, is enjoying the view of the pristine lakes below Bishop Pass on our way to Dusy Basin. It’s honestly hard to say which side of the pass is more spectacular! In case you missed it – check out my recent profile piece in OP here.

Ocotillo under the Milky Way

My latest post in the Behind the Shot section of the Outdoor Photographer Blog features the night sky in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. With this conceptual image, I wanted to combine several elements to convey the sense of wonder that you experience on a moonless night in this unique park. Take an odd looking succulent, add bit of light painting and the Milky Way, and well you get the picture…

Outdoor Photographer April 2013 Cover

I’m honored to have the April 2013 cover of Outdoor Photographer Magazine!

As many of you know, Mount Whitney in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California is a favorite location of mine and a fantastic photographic subject. I’ve climbed the peak several times over the years (both the trail and technical routes), and spent countless hours exploring the fascinating Owen’s Valley beneath it. Situated on the Sierra crest in both Sequoia National Park and the John Muir Wilderness to the east, it’s the highest peak in the United States outside Alaska and the most popular destination in what John Muir called the Range of Light.

On this particular morning all the elements came together. A clearing storm had just left a fresh dusting of snow on the peak, and the dawn light illuminated the warm desert rocks of the Alabama Hills to add a nice framing to this classic alpine scene.
